Air/Fuel Ratio Monitoring System FYI - What is it, what does it do and why do you need this? These are Air to Fuel Ratio Warning Systems for fuel injected cars. They measure the amounts of air and fuel that leave your engine after the combustion process. There is an optimum ratio of air and fuel that is required by all combustion engines - performance and/or economy tuning may change this slightly. So, why is this a warning system? If you have a non-firing spark plug, unburnt fuel will enter your exhaust system and catalytic converter. If a fuel injector remains stuck open, unburnt fuel will enter your exhaust system and catalytic converter. Either of the above scenarios is very bad as the unburnt fuel will combust inside your catalytic converter and raise the temperature to a point where your car may catch on fire.
